I am using this as my project go to point.. I am sure there will be multiple projects going on at different times, such as my detergent project of yesteryear....
My next project is after the book Julie and Julia.. .I absolutely loved the idea of cooking through a cook book when I first heard of the movie...
I waited to start my project till I had read the book and watched the movie.... and I am so thankful to have waited and not just automatically started on Julia Child's book, because what the movie doesn't tell you is all about cow brains, bone marrow reductions for enrichment, eating kidneys, livers and tons of other putrid ingredients that I do think should be consumed by man.....
So the cook book of chosing : Better Homes and Gardens new Cookbook... the big red binder...
I will be planning my menus out and checking off the recipes as I go... I am not setting a deadline because I know for a fact that I would never get through this HUGE cook book in a year...No matter how much my husband says it should be simple.....
So, starting tomorrow, we shall commence....

Why do people "toast" when drinking?
So, we were watching tv tonight and Jacob asked "why do they hit their glasses together like that? Thats silly and dangerous!"
So, hmm I decided to google it and give everyone the "history of the toast"
As found in wikipedia:

History
The custom of touching glasses is often believed to have evolved from concerns about poisoning, since clinking glasses together would cause each drink to spill over into the others. This, however, is not true. [1]
The word 'toast' became associated with the custom in the 17th century, based on a custom of flavoring drinks with spiced toast. The word originally referred to the lady in whose honor the drink was proposed, her name being seen as figuratively flavoring the drink.[2][3]
The International Handbook on Alcohol and Culture says toasting "is probably a secular vestige of ancient sacrificial libations in which a sacred liquid was offered to the gods: blood or wine in exchange for a wish, a prayer summarized in the words ‘long life!’ or ‘to your health!’”

Clothing Irritations
So why is it us average ladies either have to squeeze into a cut of a shirt made to fit a size 4 or 6, or wear a shirt made for plus size women. I am not plus size, I am not small. I am not tall, I am not short. I am me!
I am an average size 12, I have a larger chest. No I don't want to show my ta ta's to the world and no I don't want to throw on a burlap sack and get it over with. I want to be cute! I want clothes that flatter MY size. I am sick of having to try on thousands of shirts for one that fits correctly AND looks my age. I am not 50! I am not 18!
Ugh! Ok, I feel better!

The Experiment!
The Shirts Before:

Mustard Applied and Designated Soaps with each shirt:

THE RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Homemade Liquid After:

Homemade Powder After:

Gain After:

And the winner is HOME MADE POWDERED DETERGENT! WOO HOO!
I also want to add, even though the liquid homemade didn't live up to the power of the powder, it still beat the power of GAIN! So, either way. I will not be purchasing soap but making it myself!
The Recipes:
Powder:
Ingredients:
1 Bar of Ivory Bath Soap (or any other bath bar of your choosing)
1/2Cup 20 Mule Team Borax
½ Cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda.
Container large enough to hold 2 cups of laundry detergent
Directions: Grate the soap with a grater or use a food processor. Add the ½ cup of Borax and ½ cup of washing soda to the grated soap.Shake and/or mix well
Use:One tablespoon of detergent is sufficient per load of wash. If you have a high-efficiency machine, you might want to experiment with using a little less detergent for normal loads. If your clothes come out feeling stiff, lower the amount of detergent. For clothes that are heavily soiled, add a teaspoon more of the detergent..
Liquid:
Ingredients:
3.1 oz bar Ivory soap (Ivory is chosen because it's all natural. You may use a soap of your choice)
1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
½ cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
Water
Tools:
5 Gallon container
Knife or cheese grater ( I think grating it is easier!)
Pot large enough to hold 5 cups of water
Long spoon (for 5 gallon container)
Instructions:
Shave the soap into small strips (or grate) and place in the pot with 5 cups of water. Bring the water just shy of a boil and stir until the soap is completely melted. When the soap is just about melted, pour 3 gallons of hot water into the 5-gallon container and let it sit until the soap in the pot is totally melted. Once all of the soap shavings are melted, pour the mixture into the 5-gallon container and stir.Once the soap and water are thoroughly stirred, add the ½ cup of washing soda and stir until dissolved. Once the washing soda is dissolved, pour in the cup of borax and stir again until dissolved
Now you've got a huge container of hot soapy looking water. Cover the container, place it somewhere out of the way and let it sit overnight. Once it's cooled it will gel. It will not gel uniformly so it will be lumpy and watery (mine had hardly any lumps and a good stir did the trick). It may not be very attractive, but it works. It's best find smaller storage containers for convenience.
Usage: ½ cup per laundry load is adequate to clean your clothes. This homemade laundry detergent works well in high efficiency washing machines since it is low sudsing. One word of caution, if using a high efficiency machines: Before pouring the lumpy gel into the detergent receptacle, stir it to break up the lumps. Better yet, place marbles into your containers and shake to mix before each use!

The Soap Experiment!
So, I am a HUGE AWCer. (Army wife chat group) and this post came up about making your own household cleaning products. I was intrigued, read AND FELL IN LOVE!
I officially am a home-made laundry maker and user. I will no longer purchase store bought detergent, cuz its a gimmick. They are stealing your freakin money people! And the the little bubbles that I had learned to love SO much, yeah, its a fact that they add foaming agents into the detergent just so you THINK IT CLEANS BETTER! HA HA HA The joke is on you all you bubble lovers!
My home made laundry detergent, it doesn't suds at all. But wow does it clean AND I did an experiment to prove it. I smeared mustard on three different shirts. One was laundered in Homemade Powdered detergent, Homemade Liquid detergent and the third in Gain liguid detergent.
AND THE POWDER WON BY A LONG SHOT! I will post the pics of my experiment shortly, just so you my audience of.......none so far :) can enjoy them yourself!
